I have found that as I get older the need to spend a lot more time taking care of my body increases.

Does that make sense to you?

If someone told me this would happen to me 10 years ago I would have laughed in their face!

I was indestructible in my 30’s, even in my earlier 40’s.

Once I hit the magical age of 45, things changed a bit.

Back in the CrossFit and martial arts days (in my early 30’s and 40’s) I was able to charge hard throughout most of the week while recovering pretty quickly and working two full time jobs (The gym and my position as high school Athletic Trainer)

There was always the occasional elbow tendinitis from heavy pull ups, kettlebell lifting  in combination with lots of grip work in BJJ and Judo.

Those days are gone!

In my late 40’s I can still charge pretty hard but have realized that I need to spend more time on recovery work.

For example, before picking up 420 lbs off the ground, I must spend at least 30 minutes prepping.

By recovery work I mean self myofascial release, soft tissue work via massage, mobility and muscle activation.

The combination of all the above has been a game changer in the way I feel, move, and train!
